Looking to trim in anticipation of a government review of its plan for viability, due February 17th, GM announced cuts of 10,000 jobs, all white-collar careers. GM’s white-collar workers will decrease from 73,000 to 63,000 this year, with 2,500 salaried jobs cut from that 10,000. The remaining 88% of salaried workers will most likely see pay cuts.
GM asserted that the cuts were necessary in light of both requirements for the government bailout and one of the worst years for auto sales in history.
